AA 763s With 2 More Coach Rows And 2 Less Lavs

I just went to the aa.com website to see what kind of aircraft AA 252 LAX-MIA was operating with today (personal reason - it was scheduled a 763 yesterday and they changed it to a 757 on the morning of the flight and of course, I was on that flight - ugh).

Anyway, I noticed that they are operating it as a 763 today and that the 2 rear lavs in the center have been removed as well as 2 additional rows of coach have been added to the middle in their place.

Since this particular aircraft has had this modification, does this also mean that this aircraft has the new business class seats?

Yes, I think that's a safe assumption -- at least I've noticed both changes (new biz seats and extra coach rows) on several AA 763s I've flown recently.

Yes and no. AA took delivery of nine new 763s in 2003 that did not have the aft rear center lavs. The flight could have been operated with one of those birds.

FYI, of the nine new aircraft delivered in 2003, only one has been reconfigured, and that's tail # 342. The other eight new 763s are tail #s 343-350.

All AA 763's will get 2 extra rows of seats in Y and will have 2 less lavs in Y. That is indeed part of the modification to the new Biz Class seats and several other upgrades. All the 763 will have the same layout as the 9 newer 763's that came after TWA 763's were returned to lessors.

Fewer lavs in coach? This is kind of ridiculous since there is a 'no congregation' rule on planes nowadays. What happens when the movie ends and everyone gets up to hit the lav at the same time.


I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

According to American, AA was one of the few airlines to have four lavs in the back of the 763. They simply are matching the competition and using that to their advantage to up capacity.

Unless every coach seat has its own portable loo, it will be a problem. I think there are two other lavs in the front part of the coach section of AA's 767-300s. That makes for a total of 4 lavs for the coach section. How does it compare to other airlines??

It looks like Delta's domestic 767s have five Y lavs, and its international aircraft have 6. For United, it looks like they have 5 Y laves on all 767s. For BA, it looks like pure Y (WT) has 3 lavs, and if you add in WT+, it's 5.

The old AA B763 seat map shows 6 Y lavs while the new has 4 lavs. First class has 2 lavs. I think that is pretty standard world wide. AA has been spoiling you...  Smile

QQflyboy, since they are adding more seats in replace of the lavs, has management come to their senses yet and decided to modernize the 763s all the way to the back instead of stopping at the end of the C cabin?
